Hovering over Earth is Asteroid M, inhibited by Magneto and his Brotherhood. It is in this safe haven that Magneto plots his conquest of Earth and man who have discriminated mutants.
Suddenly, the asteroid is taken out of its orbit in space, and it plummets to Earth over Moscow. Summoning all his powers, Magneto diverts the asteroid to crash in the “countryside” away from the capital city’s concentrated population. Surviving the crash, the Brotherhood is confronted by the Russian military. Outnumbered, they retreat.
At the mansion, the X-Men are training in the Danger Room when Xavier receives an urgent message from Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. Magneto’s Asteroid M has crashed “close to the Soviet Missile Base”, which is where Magneto would likely head to plan his revenge for the attack on Asteroid M. The X-Men are called upon to stop Magneto before massive destruction takes place.
The X-Men take off in the Blackbird. As they approach the Soviet Missile Base, the Brotherhood has already begun their infiltration. Magneto orders his Brotherhood to hold off the X-Men while he proceeds underground to the control room.
Putting up a magnetic shield between the control room and the X-Men, Magneto launches every missile on base to destroy “major cities of the United States”, under the assumption that the United States had shot down his asteroid.
At this moment, Apocalypse appears on the screen. It was his doing that shot down Asteroid M. He had predicted that Magneto, in anger and haste, will launch an attack that will cause widespread destruction.
